Based in Newcastle Upon Tyne on Tyneside, The Newcastle Local YHA Group is a group affiliated to the Youth Hostels Association of England and Wales.

We are primarily a walking and hostelling group. We have at least two walks each month of various lengths and gradings, either on a Saturday or a Sunday, followed by a visit to a tea shop or a pub afterwards. In the summer we do evening walks of about four miles, followed by a pub meal. Our monthly hostelling weekend away is based on walking in the Lake District, Yorkshire, or Scotland.

All events are based on a strong social element. During the week we also have various social events in and around Newcastle, such as Ten Pin Bowling, Cinema, Theatre, Meals etc.

We do other things as well with week holidays, cycling weekends, and other outdoor activities.

Our environmental contribution is to do regular local litterpicks

Come along to a few events first and find out more about us before you decide if you would like to join. 2008 annual membership fees are still just £10. Attending events is free apart from accomodation, meals, and transport.
